Episode 11: the decline and fall of the holy roman empire

Hello! I am back. I have a child. And a podcast episode! Good times. The child is adorable and healthy, as is the mother despite the 42 hour labor. Today's episode will hopefully start the process of tying up the loose ends left dangling by the walking tours. Things will move quickly from here on in. At least within the podcast. My release schedule will remain determined by baby for some time. On the other hand, I am beginning the process of getting on iTunes, so tell your friends!

Greetings! I'm Curonian, from The Eastern Border podcast. I love your show, so, with your approval, I'll mention this to my listeners and send them here. Great work!

Oh! THAT Eastern Border! I had wondered if you had gotten started. I remember you talking about your show from the History Podcast site on Facebook. I thought that was a really great idea! I just downloaded all your episodes, I can't wait to listen.

Heya! I've been sick lately, so I'm lagging behind. And my first two episodes are just awful, but thank you for listening. I'm at the episode 9 at your show, and...well, as we, Latvians, are still Baltic, I have to say that your northern crusade is a bit...lacking. I recommend this source:

But that's just me, nitpicking, as your podcast is awesome. I hope you mention Riga in the iconoclast revolts we had here - reformation and our inclusion in Sweden was an interesting time. (I had planned to make some shows about Hansa myself later, as that was the period when we were at our best.)

Well don't thank me yet, I have it cued up though, and like I said I am really excited about the topic. Don't get discouraged! Podcasting takes a lot of work, emotionally and physically in addition to intellectually. We can't all be Mike Duncan and we also REALLY can't be Mike Duncan right out of the gate l. Even Mike Duncan wasn't Mike Duncan in the first few episodes. You have to find a work flow that works for you. Personally, I have kind of ditched the concept of a schedule, and I just sorta aim for once every three weeks on average. The material should be what brings you back, not fear of failing some faceless group of disaproving listeners.

Your point about the Northern Crusade is well taken, but as I said in the episode it was a cliffs nitea version of a very complex event and it is one I will be going back to in a future episode. I only gave the Albergensian Crusade like two scentences in episode 3 and Sharon Eastaugh is doing an entire podcast serries just on that.

That said when it comes tine for me to revisit religious conflict in the Baltic I would love to get your input. At the very least an intro quote, if not a full interview on the crusades in the modern memory of the region. Would that be something you would want to do? It would be a while, I still beed to finish up the walking tour and a few other things fist.

Sure, why not. I'm up for all things Baltic. :) Just send me an e-mail if/when you need anything.
